SMRs Advancing Next-generation Nuclear Energy

NPR has a article out today about small modular reactors (SMRs) asking “Are Mini Reactors the Future of Nuclear Power?” and stating,

“The U.S. government is investing millions of dollars in what it considers a promising new industry for American manufacturing: nuclear reactors. The plan is to build hundreds of mini reactors, dot them around the U.S., and export them overseas.”

We applaud continued innovation and investment in advanced SMR technologies, like the recently announced DOE funding to the NGNP Industry Alliance for additional development of the SMR High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR). This modular, underground, and helium-cooled nuclear reactor concept delivers a long-term, predictable energy supply for a broad range of process heat and/or power generation applications.

Technology for the next generation of clean nuclear energy is evolving rapidly, and we’re pleased to be at the forefront of these efforts as a member of the NGNP Industry Alliance.
