A Week of Honoring U.S. Veterans
We value the unique attributes veterans acquire through their military careers, including a proven work ethic, advanced training, and leadership skills necessary to help us tackle the current and future needs of a world with steadily increasing energy demands.
To connect veterans seeking a career in the clean energy industry with employment at AREVA, we created an AREVA Veterans Career webpage providing skill-matching charts, development resources, and personal testimonies from soldiers in our workforce.
When AREVA hires a veteran, he or she is matched with a mentor who also is a military veteran and can help smooth the transition into the corporate environment and the energy industry.
As part of the company’s veterans focus, AREVA became a signatory member of the agreement between the Nuclear Energy Institute (of which AREVA is a member company) and the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program to establish the first systematic program enabling personnel separating from the Navy to seamlessly transition to civilian employment. These programs have helped AREVA hire more than 50 veterans this year.
Specifically in honor of Veterans Day, AREVA donated $10,000 to the Fisher House Foundation, which supports active duty service members, veterans and their families by providing comfort homes at military and Veterans Affairs medical centers, scholarship programs and other quality-of-life projects – including travel for members of the military and their families in times of crisis. We selected this organization because it also offered ways for our employees to get involved by donating airline miles and hotel points to the Hero Miles or Hotels for Heroes programs.
We also supported veterans this year in their transition from active military duty to civilian careers in the energy industry with a $10,000 donation to Troops to Energy Jobs and a $5,000 sponsorship of the Hire Heroes USA 4th Annual Salute to Veterans Golf Classic tournament in Atlanta. Racecar driver Simona de Silvestro, who pilots the Nuclear Clean Air Energy IndyCar, joined us in the golf tournament to raise funds for Hire Heroes USA’s Warrior Transition Workshops.
With these activities and donations, AREVA salutes and thanks our U.S. veterans and active duty service members for their dedication and determination to keeping our country safe and secure.
